The Chinese video game Black Myth: Wukong has quickly risen to global success, selling an impressive 10 million copies worldwide just days after its release earlier this week.
As of 9 p.m. Beijing time on Friday, the game’s official X account confirmed the milestone, with sales spanning across all platforms.
Launched globally on Tuesday, the action-packed game made a strong debut, attracting a large player base on platforms like Steam. It also managed to sell nearly 1.2 million pre-orders prior to its release.

The game’s success mirrors that of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which also sold more than 10 million copies within three days of its May 2023 launch.
Black Myth: Wukong is considered China’s first Triple-A title, a term used to describe major, high-budget games. It draws inspiration from the 16th-century Chinese literary classic Journey to the West, where players take on a character reminiscent of the iconic Monkey King, Sun Wukong.
However, some controversy has arisen as co-publisher Hero Games reportedly provided foreign streamers with guidelines advising against discussing sensitive topics such as Covid-19 and feminism. According to an email seen by AFP, players were also asked to avoid mentioning China’s pandemic-related lockdowns and quarantine policies, which had previously sparked widespread civil unrest.
