According to the Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA), the new platform, known as the SEA Esports Nations Cup (SNC), is the first regional esports tournament created specifically for national teams in Southeast Asia. The initiative marks an important milestone as countries across the region move beyond simple cooperation and work together to create a unified development framework.
The SEA Esports Nations Cup was initiated by the Southeast Asia Esports Federation (SEAEF) and officially introduced with the support and participation of esports federations from across the region. The tournament is the outcome of coordinated efforts aimed at building a sustainable and long-term development platform for esports in Southeast Asia.
Do Viet Hung, President of VIRESA and President of SEAEF, said the SEA Esports Nations Cup is more than just a tournament. He described it as a strategic move for Southeast Asia to define esports as a shared regional space supported by common standards, a unified structure, and a stronger international presence.
He added that hosting the inaugural tournament gives Vietnam a chance to contribute to a regional initiative in which countries work together to establish a long-term esports competition system. He emphasized that the true value of the event lies not in the efforts of a single country, but in the collective support and participation of the entire Southeast Asian region.
The development and rollout of the SEA Esports Nations Cup has received active input from national esports federations across Southeast Asia, reflecting closer ties and stronger collaboration in shaping a shared esports ecosystem.
The competition is part of a broader multi-tier system designed to support esports development from the regional level to continental and global stages. It is expected to complement major sporting events such as the SEA Games and the Asian Games, helping establish clearer pathways for talent and competition growth.
The first edition of the SEA Esports Nations Cup will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 8 and 9 as part of the Vietnam GameVerse 2026 event. As host, VIRESA and its local partners will be responsible for organizing and running the tournament based on standards and structures agreed upon at the regional level.
The inaugural season will feature five game titles: PUBG Mobile, Teamfight Tactics, Crossfire Legends, Total Football, and Audition. A total of nine medal events will be contested during the tournament.
The selection of game titles was made through consultation and consensus among regional stakeholders, with the aim of balancing competitiveness, popularity, and representation within Southeast Asia’s diverse esports landscape.
Looking ahead, the SEA Esports Nations Cup is expected to become a regular fixture in the region’s esports calendar. Organizers plan to expand its scale, improve the quality of competition, and strengthen Southeast Asia’s position as a dynamic and influential force in the global esports industry.
